Results obtained for cells with glycerol and AQDS and glycerol and fumarate were very similar to the results with glycerol so are not shown. Experiments were conducted in a bicarbonate buffer with glycerol or hydrogen as the electron donor and U(VI) as the electron acceptor. Each point represents the average of three replicates with error bars ± 1 standard deviation, except the no donor control which was a single measurement.
