(A) The effect of 2-DG, doxorubicin, or both on apoptosis in BCPAP and CG3 cells. The two cell lines were cultured in medium supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum and then treated for 48 h with 1 mM 2-DG, 0.5 μM doxorubicin, or both. Apoptosis was examined using propidium iodide (PI)/annexin V staining and flow cytometry; PI−/annexin V+ cells were defined as apoptotic cells. (B) The expression of cleaved caspase 3 in BCPAP and CG3 cells treated for 48 h with 2-DG, doxorubicin, or both. (C) Intracellular ATP levels and (D) extracellular l-lactate production in cells treated for 48 h with 1 mM 2-DG, 0.5 μM doxorubicin, or both. *p < 0.05, **p < 0.001, compared to the controls (t test); #p < 0.05, ##p < 0.001, compared to 2-DG plus doxorubicin treatment (t test).
