Hepatocyte ballooning was determined with H&E staining in the four BMI groups (group 1: BMI 18.5–24.9 kg/m², group 2: 25.0–29.9 kg/m², group 3: 30.0–39.9 kg/m² and group 4: ≥40 kg/m²). No hepatocyte ballooning was seen in 100 out of 124 patients (81%) and in all 32 group 1 patients. 14% each of group 2 and 3 patients had a few ballooned cells. One patient of group 4 had many/prominent ballooned cells and 14 patients (41%) a few ballooned cells.
