BB0347 is tropic for joint tissue. One hour postinoculation of BALB/c mice with noninfectious B. burgdorferi strain B31A or B31A exogenously expressing BB0347 (pBB0347), significantly higher burdens of B31ApBB0347 are present in the joint tissue. This tropism is specific to the joint, as B31A and B31ApBB0347 burdens are not significantly different in heart or ear.
