The classical complement pathway mediates C3 binding to P. aeruginosa. Mid-log-phase cultures of wild-type PAO1 and oprF-deficient P. aeruginosa were incubated in 20% C1q-depleted human serum, C1q-repleted serum or heat-inactivated serum for 20 min at 37°C.
