Frequency of contractions. Pyloric and ileocecal passages are determined from changes in gastrointestinal contraction frequency. An increase from 3 to approximately 12 contractions per minute (cpm) marks the pyloric passage while an abrupt decrease in contraction frequency to around 3 contractions per minute marks the ileocecal passage.
