HPLC analysis of an extract of senescent leaves of Arabidopsis mes16 with detection of absorbance at 254 nm (trace A) or 320 nm (trace B), and of luminescence at 450 nm (excitation at 350 nm, trace C). DNCCs give rise to a strong signal at 254 nm and a weak one at 320 nm (see Figure 3 for UV spectra).
