Kinetics of AIB release. The rate of [¹⁴C]AIB release in response to the addition of 1 mM unlabeled AIB to filaments incubated in Tricine buffer with 3 μM [¹⁴C]AIB was measured. Unlabeled AIB was added after 40 to 90 min of incubation with [¹⁴C]AIB. (A) Nitrate-grown filaments. (B) Filaments incubated in BG11₀ medium for 24 h. Assuming an intracellular volume of 125 µL (mg Chl)⁻¹, the range of intracellular [¹⁴C]AIB concentrations reached in the assays was from about 0.5 to 4 mM.
