On-surface CD spectra for the immobilized BASE-C peptide at pH 3 for different NaCl concentrations. Screening of repulsive electrostatic interactions at higher ionic concentrations (>50 mm) promotes increased folding of the peptide into a stable, helical conformation even at pH 3 as indicated by the increase in Θ222/Θ208 ratio.
