Intercentromere/kinetochore distances between homologous chromosomes are increased in gip1gip2 mutants. CENH3 was immunolocalized at centromeres in G2 (A and B) and kinetochores during division (E–G) in WT (A and E), gip1gip2 (B and F), and mad3-1mad3-2 (G). Average (±SDs) intercentromere/kinetochore distance (C and H) and the relative frequency of centromere/kinetochore distances grouped into categories ranging from <0.4 to >1 (D and I) were determined in G2 and mitotic cells from WT, gip1gip2, and mad3-1mad3-2.
