When the Merci retriever is withdrawn, the entire M1 segment is not pulled down vertically, although horizontal pressure is applied to the microcatheter in the terminal portion of the internal carotid artery (white arrows). In this case, successful recanalization (thrombolysis in cerebral infarction grade 3) was achieved, and computed tomography performed after the procedures demonstrated no intracranial hemorrhage.
