Schematic area-stretching experiment and the elastic response of the membrane (a) one edge of the membrane is tethered to a fixed wall and the other edge is pulled by a constant force. The Young’s modulus is estimated by Y=(F/A)/(ΔL/L) in which F is the force exerted on the membrane, A is the crosssection area through which the force is applied, ΔL is the amount by which the length of the membrane changes and L is the original length.
