Two leaves, P92 and P93, of a whole plant of C. ensiformis were exposed to constant light, where they showed movements of short period. The leaves were then placed in continuous darkness at the time indicated (vertical line), whereupon both leaves adopted longer periods of movement. At the time of transfer, leaf P92 was descending, while leaf P93 was ascending (marked by single asterisks *). P93, after a temporary descent, adjusted its movement to an ascent (double asterisk **), and thus its movements became in phase with that of P92. Conventions are as for Figs 2 and 3.
