Quantification was performed by counting TUNEL-positive cells co-localizing with DAPI (blue) in regions of interest in the hippocampus (A) and basal cortex (B). Histochemistry (C): Co-localization with DAPI (left column) confirmed that TUNEL-positive staining (middle column) was generally in the nucleus (right column).
