Effect of high glucose on the apoptosis and proliferation of rMAPCs. The rates of apoptosis (A) and proliferation (B) of rMAPCs were not affected by high glucose (30 mM D-glucose) or hyperosmolarity after 48 hrs incubation as evaluated by flow cytometry and BrdU colorimetric immunoassay, respectively. However, the cell proliferation rate was significantly decreased when the cells were incubated with 50 mM D-glucose (C). NG: rMAPCs were incubated in the media with 5.5 mM D-glucose; HG: rMAPCs were incubated in the media with 30 mM D-glucose; and HO: rMAPCs were incubated in the media with 24.5 mM mannitol.
