AZT treatment increases arterial stiffness. Mechanical testing was used to investigate the biomechanics of carotid arteries (A and B) and aortas (C and D). Pressure–diameter mechanical tests (A & C) were performed at a series of fixed stretches. Peterson’s modulus, Ep, of the vessels was used to normalize for differences in vessel geometry (B & D, * indicates p < 0.05, n = 6 (carotids), n = 9 (aortas), and data is mean ± SEM).
