Conditional deletion of Livin in the lens using the LeCre transgene results in small and disrupted lenses. Compared with wild-type lenses from 1-month old animals (left column), lenses from mice homozygous for the floxed Birc7 allele (right column) were severely disrupted, with 100% penetrance. However, a similar lens phenotype was also observed in 37% of control (LeCretg/−;Birc7+/+) littermates. A phenotype was observed in 75% of lenses from mice that were heterozygous for the floxed allele and hemizygous for the LeCre transgene.
