The force generating capacity of a muscle is dependent on the length of muscle fibers (force-length relationship) and the velocity of muscle fibers (force-velocity relationship). The force-length curve shows that muscles can generate force more efficiently near lopt, and the force-velocity curve shows that muscles lose ability to generate force as the magnitude of contraction velocity increases.
