Photoacoustic and power doppler (PD) images for tumours treated with ultrasound-stimulated microbubbles (MB), radiation (8 Gy) or a combination of MB and 8 Gy. The images illustrate an overlay of the photoacoustic or doppler signals over 3D high-frequency B-mode ultrasound images. The upper panel shows the total haemoglobin signal (HbT), which was reduced as the stringency of the treatment increased. Similarly the middle panel illustrates a decrease in the level of oxygenated haemoglobin (SO2); depicted as less red and more blue for the deoxygenated haemoglobin. The lower panel shows corresponding PD images. The scale bar indicates 2 mm.
