According to the previous reports (reference 33), arrows and boxes show residues that are critical or important for IL-12p70 formation. (a) Structure of IL-12p40α. The yellow region is the additional 45 residues. It is clear that the important residues ‘RDFCNSS’ are wrapped by the carbon terminal residues, which may lead to IL-12p40α cannot dimerize with IL-12p35, thereby prevents the IL-12p70 formation. (b) Structure of IL-12p40β. Green region is the carbon terminal. The important residues ‘RDFCNSS’ are exposed.
