OAS as a function of two parameters: pre-existing immunity to an epitope shared between original and drifted strains AX and steric interference parameter β. We consider OAS following sequential immunizations with two strains of influenza. We define OAS quantitatively as the fraction of the final antibody to influenza that is specific for epitopes on the head of HA from the first strain. Results of EMM are shown at three different values of β (solid lines). The case of no epitope masking is shown with thick dashed line. The dotted line shows the minimal level of OAS for the model with two epitopes X and Y on the head of HA. The antigen dose is 104.
