Scale 1 defined family as having a partner or spouse with or without children; scale 2 defined family as close relatives, including parents, siblings, and grandparents, involved in one's life. Individuals could answer either or both scales depending on their current family situations. Each instrument was a 7-point Likert scale with 1 = strongly disagree through 7 = strongly agree.
