Neuroendocrine and physiological alterations in E2 mice following stress. (a) Mice with E2 tended to have elevated plasma corticosterone concentrations following an acute stressor, as well as following an acute stressor after chronic variable stress (CVS). (b) Adrenal gland weight increased following CVS, most markedly so in E2/E2 and E2/E3 mice. (c–f) E2/E2 mice had elevated apolipoprotein E (apoE) concentrations in the plasma, adrenal glands, pituitary gland, and amygdala.
