The New England region includes Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont; the Mid-Atlantic region includes New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania; the East North Central region includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin; the West North Central region includes Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota; the South Atlantic region includes the District of Columbia, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia; the East South Central region includes Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Tennessee; the West South Central region includes Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas; the Mountain region includes Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming; and the Pacific region includes Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon, and Washington.
Most (62.8%; 1,600/2,547) of the specimens consisted of sputum.
The specimens were comprised predominantly of middle ear fluid or sinus secretions.
