A schematic of the geometry of rotor−stator contact during a half-step. The distance between the nearest FliG and the stator is then given by xRS=XRS+RθRpϕS. The contact force is zero whenever xRSXRS. Moreover, the stator never is ahead of the rotor. This is ensured by choosing a time step such that the fluctuations from the random noise terms are small.
