All heart function recovery parameters were better preserved when hearts were suspended in air or immersed in nitrogen-KH solution (KH+N2) compared to hearts immersed in oxygenated-KH solution (KH+O2) during the normothermic ischemic period. Time course of cardiac function recovery parameters, including left ventricular systolic pressure (LVSP); left ventricular end-diastolic pressure (LVEDP); left ventricular developed pressure (LVDP) and heart rate (HR) of the three groups: 1) hearts immersed in KH+O2, 2) hearts immersed in KH+N2, and 3) in hearts suspended in air. Note that hearts immersed in KH+O2 and hearts suspended in air where subjected to three different reperfusion durations (Rep-40, Rep-60, and Rep-90), while hearts immersed in KH+N2 received only 60 minutes of reperfusion.
