The Cypress Hills are an insular formation of foothills located in southeast Alberta and southwest Saskatchewan, Canada (Latitude 49.7°N, Longitude 109.5°W). The hills are distinguished by an abundance of tree cover (dark green) surrounded by a matrix dominated by mixed grasslands, pasturelands and agriculture development (shades of yellow, pink and light green, respectively). Cougars re-colonized the Cypress Hills in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
