Activation in the fusiform gyrus was correlated inversely with the amount of pain patients experienced during the scan (ρ = −0.498, p = 0.008). No other activations or deactivations were related to current pain in patients [VLPFC (3b), ρ = 0.196, p = 0.595; PCC (3b), ρ = −0.196, p = 0.318; PCC (2b), ρ = 0.071, p = 0.721; MPFC (2b), ρ = 0.156, p = 0.427].
