TABLE 1.
Sensitivity and specificity of RapidBac
| Category | No. of RapidBac-positive samples | No. of RapidBac-negative samples | Total no. | Sensitivity (specificity) (%) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Significant bacteriuria | 245 | 40 | 285 | 86 |
| Gram negative | 244a | 26 | 270 | 90 |
| Gram positive | 1b | 14 | 15 | 7 |
| No significant bacteriuria | 31 | 509 | 540 | (94) |
Includes a sample that also contained a Gram-positive uropathogen; it is presumed that the positive RapidBac result could be attributed to the Gram-negative uropathogen.
This sample also contained Gram-negative bacteria, unidentified at the species level due to colony count but presumptively identified as a lactose-fermenting Gram-negative rod. It is presumed that the RapidBac test was positive due to the presence of the Gram-negative organism.
