TABLE 2.

Sensitivity of RapidBac in bacteriuric samples by uropathogena

Uropathogen No. of bacteriuric samples (% significant bacteriuria) No. of RapidBac-positive samples (sensitivity [%])
Enterobacteriaceae 269 (94) 243 (90)
    E. coli 225 (79) 207 (92)
    Proteus spp. 11 (4) 9 (82)
    Klebsiella spp. 21 (7) 19 (90)
    Other Enterobacteriaceaeb 13 (5) 11 (85)
Pseudomonas spp. 3 (1) 0 (0)
Acinetobacter spp. 1 (<1) 1 (100)
Staphylococcus saprophyticus 16 (6) 2 (12)c
a

There were a total of 285 bacteriuric samples. Uropathogen categories are not mutually exclusive. Five samples had two identified uropathogens; these were included under each respective uropathogen category.

b

Other Gram-negative Enterobacteriaceae include Citrobacter spp. (n = 5), Enterobacter spp. (n = 8), and Serratia spp. (n = 1).

c

Two samples with S. saprophyticus also contained Gram-negative bacteria. It is presumed that the RapidBac test was positive due to the presence of the Gram-negative organism.
