Scanning electron micrograph of a clot formed on the ASAP posts. The long strands are fibrin fibers and the biconcave discs are red blood cells. The posts interact with the clot by deform the clot formed around the posts as they deflect. The stiffer the blood clot the more force is required to deflect the posts and clot system.
