Extinction by 8-nm Au, 2-nm Cr film on quartz (orange trace). The black, red, and blue traces are a reproduction of those shown in Fig. 1 (main text), compared with the extinction by the 8-nm Au, 2-nm Cr film deposited on the quartz. The rise in extinction blue of 450 nm by the film is primarily due to interband absorption transitions in the Au film.
