Co-expression of CB1R and CB2R mRNA in pallidothalamic neurons in control, parkinsonian and dyskinetic monkeys. Immunofluorescent detection of transported CTB combined with dual fluorescent in situ hybridization for the detection of CB1R and CB2R mRNA. All pallidothalamic projecting neurons (green channel) co-expressed CB1R (red channel) and CB2R (blue channel) mRNA. CB2R mRNA was expressed at lower levels than CB1R mRNA across all experimental conditions. Most importantly, there was a marked reduction in expression levels for both CB1R and CB2R mRNA transcripts in the dyskinetic state. Scale bar is 50 μm for all panels
