Protease activity of EPS prepared from S. acidocaldarius biofilms, visualized in zymogram gels. EPS (5 μg protein/lane) were electrophoresed in gels containing 0.1% casein or 0.1% gelatin and incubated at either pH 3.8 (A,C) or 7.8 (B,D) for 24 h at 78°C. EPS were isolated with the CER method from biofilms collected from Brock medium plates after 4 days of incubation at 78°C.
