Wild-type C57BL/6 or CD73 -/- mice were mock-infected or I.T. challenged with 5 x 103 CFU of S. pneumoniae TIGR4 (+S.p). Three days after challenge, levels of CXCL-2 in the lung homogenates were determined by ELISA (A) and the mean florescent intensities (MFI) of CXCR2 (B) or CD18 (C) on PMNs (Ly6G+) recruited into the lungs were determined by flow cytometry (see Materials and Methods). Pooled data from two separate experiments (n = 6 infected and n = 4 uninfected mice per group) are shown. Data represent means +/- SEM, and significant differences determined by Student’s t-test are indicated by asterisks (*** = p< 0.0001 and * = p<0.05).
