Includes persons who answered “yes” to the questions, “Have you ever been told by a doctor or other health professional that you had asthma?” and “Do you still have asthma?”
2008–2010 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System data for Non-Hispanics in 50 states and District of Columbia.
2008–2010 National Health Interview Survey data for Non-Hispanics in 50 states and District of Columbia.
Adjusted for age, sex, education, income, obesity and cigarette smoking status.
Using the method of examining overlap between 95% confidence intervals, unadjusted and adjusted current asthma prevalence from BRFSS were compared with the corresponding prevalence from NHIS. Non-overlapping confidence intervals indicate statistical significance.
p Values for the chi-square test for independence to determine whether there is a significant relationship between two categorical variables.
