Protein markers of apoptosis. Protein levels of Poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase-1 (PARP-1), apoptotic protease activating factor (APAF-1), cleaved caspase-3, caspase-9, BCL2, and HMGB1 were measured by Western blot in whole lung homogenates as described in methods. A total of n = 4–12 mice were assessed in each group with no more than 1 mouse per litter from each treatment group. The data were quantified by densitometry and analyzed by 2-way ANOVA with Tukey's post hoc test, and the results are indicated on each individual graph.
