Detection of silver nanoparticles after an incubation time of 24 h inside hMSC by FIB/SEM (a, c) and the corresponding elemental analysis (b, d). The cells were cultured for 24 h with 50 µg ml−1 silver nanoparticles (c, d) or without Ag-NP (a, b). A part of the gold-sputtered hMSC and the surface was cut by ion milling in order to visualize the internalized particles. The EDX spectra (b, d) show the detected elements; the black arrow denotes silver within the milled cell (d).
