Chlamydophila pneumoniae regulates host apoptosis under apoptotic stimulation using STS. HEp-2 cells were infected with C. pneumonia J138 (MOI = 0.2), and STS (final concentration, 0.5 µm) was added at 44 and 68 h post-infection (hpi). Four hours later (shown as 48 and 72 hpi, respectively), cells were stained with Hoechst 33258. Only cells containing inclusions larger than 4 µm in diameter were counted as infected cells, and the infected cells were categorized into either apoptotic or non-apoptotic cells. Cells with smaller inclusions or without any inclusions were eliminated from the cell counting. All data are expressed as mean ± SD calculated from at least three independent experiments.
