Dynamic batch cultivation with substrate pulses. Glucose, sorbitol, mannose, fructose, maltose, glycerol and lactic acid were sequentially pulsed after a batch on glucose. The CER signal (continuous black line) was used to follow metabolic activity. The specific substrate uptake rate (q_s, black dot) was determined for the different substrates.
