The effect of AICAR on Akt phosphorylation in breast cancer cells. Each of the 3 cell types were incubated with AICAR versus control (medium alone) for 3 or 24 h and Akt phosphorylation at Ser-473 was assessed as described in Materials and methods. Significant reduction in Akt phosphorylation was observed in MCF-7 (A) and MDA-MB-231 (B) cells, but not in T47D cells (C) (**p≤0.01 and ***p≤0.001; n=3).
