Shown is the weighted average rank difference for different aggression chain lengths (W(n), Eq 4) for Group One (a) and Group Two (b). The solid line shows the observed signal, while the dashed line shows that found in the null, with 1σ error ranges. Significant evidence exists for a strong signal of relative rank contained in aggression chains. Such signals are then accessible to individuals capable of transitive inference.
