The staminal cones were removed two days before anthesis (d-2) to prevent self pollination (four trusses per plant, three flowers per truss). Some of them were hand-pollinated 2 d after emasculation (d0) and others were left unpollinated. Ovaries were collected on days –2, 0, 5, 10, and 20.
