The diets of the control and calorie and macronutrient-restricted animals were the same, except for the fact that the diet of the restricted animals was compensated in micronutrients to such an extent that micronutrient intake was similar between all groups. The small difference in kcal/g provided between control and calorie restricted is due to the fact that the caloric-restricted diet was compensated for mineral and vitamin contents to avoid deficiencies.
