Growth kinetics of region IX mutants. MeWo (A), ARPE19 (B), and ARPE30 (C) cell monolayers were infected in triplicate with VZVLUC, 30R, Δ30L, 30-IXAla, 30-620A, or 30-622A. Representative fields were photographed at 4 days postinfection. Cells were harvested in luciferase lysis buffer at the indicated time points. Firefly luciferase activity is shown in relative luminescence units (RLU). Each point is the average for three independent samples (the standard deviation is provided).
