(a) 10 kHz sinusoidal stimulation of a SCM with HH ion channels and a membrane capacitance that was either constant (i.e., cdc or c) or declined with increasing frequency (right). Vm is the transmembrane voltage, and the arrow indicates the onset of stimulation. (b) Intracellular monophasic pulse stimulation (i) of a SCM with MRG ion channels found in the node of Ranvier of a myelinated axon. The pulse was 100 μs in duration. Note that the repetitive action potentials following a single stimulus are the result of implementing in a single compartment model membrane dynamics that were originally parameterized to represent a node of Ranvier in a multi-compartment cable model. The experimental data are from (Takashima and Schwan, 1974).
