Vm is the transmembrane voltage, and the arrow indicates the onset of stimulation. (b) Intracellular monophasic pulse stimulation (i) of a SCM with MRG ion channels found in the node of Ranvier of a myelinated axon. The pulse was 100 μs in duration. Note that the repetitive action potentials following a single stimulus are the result of implementing in a single compartment model membrane dynamics that were originally parameterized to represent a node of Ranvier in a multi-compartment cable model. The experimental data are from (Takashima and Schwan, 1974).
