Camera lucida drawings of PHA-L labeled axons in the right amygdala in case R36. (A) Drawing of the PHA-L labeled axons in the section shown in Fig. 4A (lateral is to the right). Although almost all of these axons exhibited varicosities, they are not illustrated in this low magnification drawing. Note the high density of axons in the CITZ, located in the far lateral portion of the capsular subdivision of the central nucleus (CLC). The mICN and main ICN contain very few labeled axons. (B) Higher power drawing of the PHA-L labeled axons in the ventral medial ICN in the section shown in Fig. 6A. Axonal varicosities are illustrated in this drawing. Labeled axons that were located in the adjacent lateral central (CL) and basolateral (BL) nuclei are not drawn. Note that the density of labeled axons in the caudal ventromedial ICN (B) is much less than in the CITZ (A), but greater than in the main ICN or rostral portions of the medial ICN (A).
