Measure Units Notes
Bone area cm2 The total area of the mouse that was interpreted as mineralized tissue, looking down on the mouse from above.
Bone mineral content (BMC) g The calculated amount of mineral present in the whole mouse (exclusive of the head) or in the ROI.
Bone mineral density (BMD) g/cm2 Calculated by dividing BMC by bone area and, as such, is an animal size–corrected parameter.
Total area cm2 The projected area of the mouse looking down from above.
Ratio of soft tissue attenuation coefficients This value is not used for small animal studies usually. This value is unitless.
Percent fat % The calculated amount of fat present in the whole mouse (exclusive of the head) divided by the total tissue mass of the mouse. Total fat mass is calculated by the machine, but not presented in the standard export function. It can be back-calculated from this exported value.
Total tissue mass (TTM) g This is the estimated bodyweight of the mouse and is calculated by summing BMC, total fat mass and total lean mass.
Total lean mass g The calculated amount of lean mass present in the whole mouse. Total lean mass is calculated by the machine, but not presented in the standard export function. It can be back-calculated using exported values. This value is presented on the output screen at the time of scan analysis.
