Reduced cardiomyocyte viability and increased programmed cell death in MEF2D-depleted cardiomyocytes. MEF2D-depleted NRVMs were cultured for 5 and 7 days, and viability was measured with CellTiter Blue cell viability assay. Five (A) and 7 days (B) of MEF2D depletion resulted in decreased cardiomyocyte viability and significantly increased caspase-3 activity (C and D). E, MEF2D-deficient cardiomyocytes have 3.5-fold more TUNEL-positive cells than the control, indicating that apoptosis is occurring in these cells. The data are means ± S.E.
