(A-G) Using total RNA isolated from the lumbar spinal cord of mice in each group at day 20–22 after immunization, the level of mRNA expression of inflammatory cytokines (A-C), iNOS (D), and chemokines (E-G) was measured by RT-PCR (bands in the bottom) and quantified (graphs). The mRNA expression levels of each gene were normalized to that of GAPDH. The mRNA expression levels of TNF-a (A), IL-1b (B), IL–6 (C), iNOS (D), MCP–1 (E), MIP–1α (F), and RANTES (G) were significantly decreased in the spinal cord of EAE mice by onset-treatment with HBPDS (30% ethanol extracted).
